Emersyn at 1 Month
I can't believe a month has already flown by! It never ceases to amaze how long the last month of pregnancy feels compared to how quickly the first month goes by! It is all going way too fast for my liking. I know there are a lot of parents who do not care for the newborn stage, but it is honestly my favorite. I just love how tiny and snuggly newborns are.
Our little Emersyn is sure a sweet one! She has such a laid back disposition. Her personality seems to come out more and more each day. She is so incredibly easy going. She literally only cries when she is hungry or really tired. She rarely cries just because. On a bad day for her, she will cry maybe a total of 15 minutes. I am so happy to be blessed with such an easy baby. Some of her siblings were not easy at all, and my biggest fear was having another very high needs baby with three other kids to take care of. She has fit into our family so seamlessly.
So far, Emmy's favorite thing to do is sleep. She wins the prize for being the champion sleeper. This girl can sleep! She sleeps almost all day and is awake very little besides when she eats. She does love to look at her brother and sisters. At first I worried she was sleeping too much because her siblings never slept this much. Then my mom reminded me I was the same exact way as a baby and slept like a champ and hardly ever cried. So, I guess I just finally got an easy baby.
We also out the play mat and she really enjoys laying on that. She will lay there for a very long time just looking at the dangling animals. Since she sleeps so much and is still too young, that is about the extent of her play time for now. I know in the coming weeks she will become much more interactive.
Emersyn's sleep at night is going very well too. When I was pregnant with her, I was so nervous about how I was going to function during another newborn sleep phase. She has made it so easy on me. She has consistently slept good chunks since we came home from the hospital. She will sleep a good 4 hour chunk to star the night off, and then she usually will wake up in another three hours. So, most nights I am only getting up with her two times. I am used to waking up every 2 hours with other babies, so I will take her schedule! Most of the time she goes right back to sleep. For having a newborn, I feel pretty rested which with four kids is what I need!
Emersyn's one month checkup went really well. Her doctor said she looks perfect and didn't have any concerns for her. Emersyn nurses like a champ and also wins the award for gaining the most weight in the first month. I was astonished to see that she gained three pounds in one month! She now weighs 10.2 pounds (70%) and is 21.6 inches (65%). I think all that sleeping is helping her grow like a champ. Three pounds and two inches in one month is pretty remarkable! I am so glad our little princess is so healthy and growing so well.
