Last weekend was a big one for us! It started on Friday afternoon when I picked Ashlyn up from school. She came out with a huge smile on her face and she was carrying a box. I immediately asked her what was in the box. She explained to me that she had been picked as "Top Tiger" for the week. She was very excited because she was only the second student to be picked. As "Top Tiger" she got to take home a stuffed tiger, "LT" for the weekend. Part of the project was that we were to take pictures of our weekend and document it in a journal. We had a great time doing things with "LT". Her journal entry definitely exhibited all the fun we had over the weekend. The rest of the week Ashlyn got to do things in her class for Top Tiger. One day, the class got to interview her about her favorite things. Ashlyn loved it and said it was so much fun being interviewed. She was very sad when her week was over and when she had to bring "LT" back.
On Saturday morning, we woke up bright and early and headed up to Golden for a very special event. It's no secret how much Dawson just adores Thomas the Train. He plays with his trains all day and doesn't really play with much else. He is just into everything Thomas. A few months ago, my mom discovered that Thomas the Train would be coming to Colorado. She immediately bought tickets for all the kids to go. We had been looking forward to this day for some time. We just knew how much Dawson was going to love it.
The event was held at a train museum. We couldn't believe how many people were there when we pulled up. We had to park in a lot far away and take buses in. As soon as we walked in, it was like being at Sodor Island. There were trains everywhere. They had all sorts of neat activities for train lovers. Dawson was in heaven! We wandered around for a bit and took in all the sights and the different exhibits. Before we knew it, it was time for our train ride. They design the train to look just like Thomas. Before we boarded, we got a group shot with Thomas. The kids were so excited. The train ride was very cool. We rode around the train yard three times. I think it was the highlight of Dawson's life.
We had a great time, and it started to get very hot and we were all getting a bit hungry. In order to leave, you have to walk through an enormous tent with all things Thomas. I have never seen so much Thomas stuff. I think they had just about an object you could think of in Thomas the Train. We let all the kids pick out a souvenir. Dawson picked out a Thomas and his passenger trains. He has literally not stopped playing with it since.
As we were boarding the buses, Dawson looked out the window and waved to Thomas and said, "Goodbye Thomas." It was too sweet. We have definitely decided to go back next year because the kids enjoyed it so much. It was such a perfect way for Thomas fans to enjoy Thomas.
