Brianna's Graduation

After two very long and difficult years, I finally graduated with my Masters of Art in Teaching in Literacy Intervention!  Completing this program was the hardest, yet most rewarding thing I have probably ever done!  Having a baby partway into the program, made it even more challenging, but I kept going forward.
I think the most challenging parts was writing my thesis while working full time and raising four kids.  It was so much more work than I ever imagined, but I got it done.  I think my final thesis ended up being around 35 pages and I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.  I was nominated by my thesis advisor to be one of the speaker's to present their thesis at our presentations.  I had to decline because my fear of public speak is way too overwhelming!
I feel so lucky to be part of such an incredible experience and to train and learn under such an amazing professor.  There was a very small group of us (12 women) that completed the program. We all became very close and I know they will be friends for life.
I found out a few months prior to graduation that Oprah Winfrey was going to be the speaker at graduation!  I was beside myself with excitement.  I have been a fan of Oprah's for years.  I remember when I was in high school my mom would watch Oprah every afternoon and I would come home from school and watch it with her. Some of my all time favorite books were part of Oprah's book club.  It was such a perfect way to end what was such an amazing journey for me!
Even though graduation was May 19th, it was still a very cold morning.  My family came to watch and support me.  Oprah gave an amazing speech and it was so inspiring.  When we crossed the stage, we got to take a picture with her and shake her hand.  She gave us each a copy of her newest book.  It was truly an experience I will never forget!
Now that I am graduated, I get to use my degree in the best way possible.  I will do private dyslexia tutoring out of our house.  I have also accepted a part time position at ALLIES which is the local dyslexia school here in the Springs.  I am very excited for what the future holds for me with my knowledge and degree!

Colorado College is so scenic!

Here I am grabbing a flower leia from my sister

Shaking Oprah's hand.  I can't think of many more celebrities more famous than her!

What a moment!
