This post will be all over the place and cover a little bit of what happened this week.
Another week has gone by, and my little man is just growing up too fast! Dawson continues to do better. He still has his fussy moments, but NOTHING like he used to have. Gone are the days where he screams all day long. I'm going to continue what I have been doing and hope he continues to do well. We are still struggling on the sleep front, but I'm hoping that longer stretches are just around the corner. I hope it isn't wishful thinking.
This week, I took Dawson to my school to meet the kids. My class has been DYING to meet him. They ask their new teacher all the time about me and the baby. I was waiting until he was a bit older to take him. I had a meeting at work, so decided to bring him by. He managed to sleep almost the entire time we were there. The man who took over for me didn't announce to the class that I was coming by. When I opened the door it was a mob of third graders running over to me. I can't even tell you how many hugs and "I miss yous" I got. It was great. I miss them to and I loved seeing them. Dawson continued to sleep and they took turns coming to take a look at him. They also got to ask me questions that were just so sweet like, "Who was the first person to hold him when he was born?" My meeting at work was about next year. I am taking the rest of the this school year off. (MUCH to the dismay of my students who kept asking me if I was coming back.) I have decided to work part time next year. I have a good friend at work who was on my team last year. She had a daughter in December. We both have decided not to return full time. My principal has told me from when I first announced my pregnancy to her, that she would let me do a job share because she doesn't want to lose me. I have gone back and forth about returning, but ultimately have decided that I should work part time for financial reasons. I will return next August and I am tentatively teaching the fourth grade, so I will have some of the same kids I had this year. I will work half a day Wednesday, and all day Thursdays and Fridays. I think it will be a good fit for me. If everything falls in place, I won't even have to put Dawson in daycare. My sister will watch Dawson on the days that I work, and I will watch Ella the days she works. It should be a great trade off and I know he will be in excellent hands.
I also wanted to mention Ashlyn and her love of books. Ever since I can remember, I have been an avid reader. I literally am always reading. I definitely got my love of reading from my mom. She is the same way. Over the years, we have shared countless books and have had many discussions about them. I have always wished for my children to have the same passion and love for books. I started reading to Ashlyn when I was pregnant with her. I continued to read to her each and every day. All of this reading is really paying off and I am really starting to see her love for books grow. I buy books for Ashlyn every chance I get at garage sales. She has literally hundreds of books. Throughout the day she will go over to the bookcase and grab a book to "read". Joey and I read about 10 books a day to her and she still wants more. Some stories she loves more than others, and she will often "read" then to herself if we aren't available to read to her. She will flip the pages and narrate the story. The other day, Dawson was laying on my bed and she got into bed with a pile of books. She started to "read" to him the stories. She was showing him the pictures and telling him what happened in each story. It was too cute! The even cuter thing was the way Dawson sat there entranced by her reading. He was smiling and listening a way. This melted my heart because I often would read to my sister and helped teach her to read. I love seeing Ashlyn do the same. It was a great moment and I of course grabbed the camera and took some pictures. I just know that Ashyln will one day be an avid reader just like her mom.
