Ashlyn in front of a butterfly sculpture |
This weekend was one of only a few were we didn't have any plans. The weather really cooled down and Joey and I wanted to take advantage of it. On Saturday, I needed to go to some running stores downtown. We don't go downtown too often so we decided to make a day of it and try some new things. We started the day at the Pioneers Museum. It's a pretty neat museum. I went there a lot as a child, and I was excited to take my kids. The best part is that it is a free museum! There was a lot to look at. It contains many different displays of artifacts pertaining to Colorado through the years. I decided while I was there that I definitely need to take my class there next year since we do a whole unit on Colorado history. Dawson didn't think too much of the museum, but Ashlyn really enjoyed it. She loved looking at all the old items and seeing how life was years ago. I loved all the questions that she had.
After the museum, we headed to Chipotle for lunch per Ashlyn's request. Ashlyn's favorite restaurant is Chipotle and Joey and I always oblige since we love it too. After lunch, we headed to the fountain downtown. It was pretty crowded when we got there. Ashly was a little unsure at first, but quickly got wet and seemed to have a good time. Dawson just walked around the fountain and didn't want to have anything to do with the water. What a fun time we had on Saturday!
On Sunday, we decided to head to a splash park since Ashlyn liked the fountain so much the day before. It was a splash park we hadn't been to. It is across town and not in the best of neighborhoods, but we thought we would give it a go. We were very surprised when we got there that we were practically the only ones there. We thought it was closed because the parking lot was so empty. This time, Dawson got wet right away. This splash park was a lot better because it had lots for kids to play with. Dawson had a wonderful time. He had an ear to ear grin the entire time. We loved it because we were practically the only ones there. The kids did not want to leave. We definitely want to go back again before summer is over.
We had a great weekend despite not having anything planned to do. It always seems like we have so many places and things that we have to do. Some times it's nice to have no plans and just go where the wild wind takes us!
