Spring Spree 5K and Father's Day Weekend

We had an extremely busy weekend this past weekend!  It was full of fun and excitement.   My weekend started very early on Saturday morning.  I was running in a local race called Sailing Shoes.  It's a race that takes place downtown and is part of the series that I do every year.  It's one of my favorites and I really like the course.  The only downside is the 7:00 a.m start time! I know it's to beat the summer heat, but it's still brutal waking up at 4:45. I headed down to the race early, and Joey and the kids went down later.  The race started right on time and we were off.  I tried something new and decided not to listen to my iPod while I ran.  I can't say that I noticed it made much of a difference.  I can say that I missed my music immensely, so I don't know that I will race without my music again.  I saw Joey and the kids about a mile in which is always very nice.  I also saw them right before I got to the finish line which is what I needed to push myself a little harder.  I didn't do as good as I had hoped, but I didn't do horribly either.  I had fun and that's what matters.  I am kind of hitting a plateau with my running, so I'm going to be changing some training things up to see if that helps.  I won't bore anyone with any more details about that.
Moving on, Ashlyn usually does the kids fun run, but this race was also a 10k and it usually takes them quite a while to get the kids run under way because they have to wait for all the 10kers to finish.  We decided to have her skip it this year because she had a very special date.
We headed home, and shortly after getting home, Uncle Adam and Aunt Jane arrived at our house.  They are visiting for the week.  They had lots of exciting toys for the kids that they just loved.  We didn't have long to visit because Ashlyn and her Dad were going to a father/daughter lunch at the Chick Fil A in the mall.  Joey and Ashlyn went last year and she really enjoyed it.  Ashyln decided that Uncle Bryan and Ella should also come.  They said it was a great time.  The girls got dressed up and thoroughly enjoyed the special time with their favorite dads in the whole world.
Saturday was also a special day because it was my brother's birthday.  So, Saturday evening we went out to dinner to celebrate.  We went to the new Hacienda Colorado in town.  The food and service was wonderful and we all were very full of delicious Mexican food when we left.
Ashlyn was up bright and early Sunday morning to start celebrating Father's day.  She wanted to bring her dad breakfast in bed.  She made him a bowl of cereal and a glass of water.  She also gave him the special card that she made for him.  Once everyone was up, we headed to Joey's favorite breakfast place for breakfast with Adam and Jane.  We don't go out to breakfast often, so it was a really nice treat.  The food was good as usual and Joey got to eat at his favorite breakfast place.
After breakfast, Adam and Jane headed to Buena Vista to see Joey's dad.  Ashlyn really wanted to play miniature golf, so we headed over there.  We played a new course and had a really nice time golfing and being silly.  Ashlyn even got a hole in one!  Joey decided that he wanted to go play some softball with some friends from work.  The kids and I headed over to my parents to get a start on the Father's day dinner we were preparing later in the day.
To celebrate Father's Day, we had dinner at my parent's house.  My mom and I planned a very good menu and everyone seemed to enjoy it.  Joey got to grill the steaks which he always enjoys.  After dinner, we headed back home and Joey headed to his softball game for that night.  When he got home, Ashlyn asked if they could watch a movie together just the two of them.  Of course Joey agreed.  He ended his special day curled up on the couch with his favorite little girl in the world.

Towards the end.  I don't know why it looks like I'm running all by myself.

This was towards the end of the race, there were no females by me, so I decided that I would out kick this guy at the end.

Here I am pulling ahead of me.  He didn't seem to like a girl beating him, so he picked it up and ended up beating me by one second.  It made the finish a little more fun.

We had planned to eat outside on my parent's deck, but as luck would have it, it started raining right when we were getting ready to eat.
