Second Cross Country Race

It should come as no surprise that I am getting behind on the blog yet again.  I have such good intentions to keep up with it, it's just that we have been so busy!  Having Ashlyn in full time kindergarten adds a lot more to our schedule.  Between pick-ups, drop-offs, homework, school activities, birthday parties, etc. we keep very busy.  Its definitely been quite an adjustment for our family, but we are settling in nicely to our new routines.
Two weekends ago, Ashlyn had her second cross country meet of the year.  It was on a Friday night after school.  Unfortunately, if was very, very cold that evening.  They cancel practice due to weather, but they don't cancel the meets.  Ashlyn decided to be a trooper and insisted on going.  We bundled her up and off we went to her meet at a nearby school.  This time Uncle Steven, Gram and Papa were all there to cheer her on.  How nice they were to brave the cold!  It was even colder than I usually run in!  Since Ashlyn is in kindergarten, she always races first which was a blessing in the weather.
They all lined up and it was time to go.  Ashlyn took off and we saw her race by.  The course was one that we really couldn't see her a whole lot during the race.  It worried me a bit to not be able to see her.  Before we knew it, she came running through the trees towards the finish line.  Even in the cold, she still had a smile on her face.  My brother said seeing that smile made his whole day.  I love seeing that smile because I know that she is having fun and that's all that matters to me.  She did a great job as usual and we were so proud of our little runner!  Right after she ran, we ran towards the car to warm up!   We ended our night with pizza and a family movie night.  It was a great Friday night!
Ashlyn has really been showing a lot of improvement during practice.  I have really been enjoying running with her at practice.  We have a good time talking and running.  She has been doing so good and I am very impressed at how far she can now run.  She only has two more practices and then one final meet left for the season.  I will post her final mileage total when I post about her final meet.  I think everyone will be pretty surprised by how many miles she has ran.

Waiting to run

Lining up

There goes our happy little runner

You can kind of see her coming down the sidewalk by the trees.

Here she comes towards the finish line

Having a fun time

Love that smile and love my little runner girl!!!
