Graceyn's 1st Birthday

Things have been so unbelievably busy and crazy around here!  I just can't seem to get caught up and each week becomes increasingly more jam packed with things to do.  We also spent two weeks traveling for spring break, so I am still playing catch up from that.  I am slowly getting around to catching up on the blog.  The posts will be delayed quite a bit, but they will eventually make it on the blog.
As I mentioned above, this year we were gone for two weeks during spring break.  Two years ago we bought a house during spring break, and last year Gracie was born.  Since we hadn't gone anywhere for some time, we went all out.  Unfortunately, we were gone during Graceyn's first birthday.  I decided to go have her birthday party before we left.  I knew I had a lot going on when we returned, so I am glad I decided to do it that way.  So, she technically wasn't a year old for her party.
I have been planning her first birthday party for a very long time.  Her nursery colors are yellow and gray.  We also used the theme "You are my sunshine" a  bit in her room.  I knew I wanted to use both of those themes for her party.  Gracie also loves the song "You Are My Sunshine".  Every night, right before I place her in her crib, I hold her against my chest and she presses her sweet cheek against mine, and I sing it to her.  She always is so calm and at peace.  It's one of the best parts of my day.  She also has a the book and we read it almost every night.  I had a great time searching Pinterest for party ideas.  I found some great ones.  It always seems you run out of time before you run out of good ideas.
I spent A LOT of time planning, shopping, and creating things for her party.  My sister was a huge help and made a lot of the decorations with me.  I could not have done it without her.  It was a lot of fun putting everything together and I could not have been more happy with the way it turned out.  It was exactly what I had dreamed of.  The party was perfect and our little sunshine had a great time.  She was showered with lots of love, treats, and presents.  She is such a blessed girl.  I think the first birthday party is so incredibly bittersweet.  On one hand, it is such a blessing they are a year old and that they have grown from a newborn into an active little one.  On the other hand, they are no longer a baby and are becoming more and more independent.  Here are some pictures from Graceyn's special day.

The cake table.  I made the sunshine banner.  I used a picture of Gracie in her chair at each month.  It was neat way to see how she grew through the year.  I just loved the decorations.

The sunshine cake.  It looks a little funny because I chose to make her a healthy smash cake.  The cake was made of whole wheat flour and applesauce.  The frosting was also healthy.

Our little sunshine

This sign was perfect.  You can see the banner better in the background.

I made homemade lemon cupcakes.  My sister made the cupcake toppers and they were so cute!
The food table (the food wasn't out yet).  My sister did an amazing job with the balloons and streamers.  It looked perfect.

Some of the food

My friend Bri made this garland for her highchair.  I love the way it turned out.

Another view of her sunshine cake.  I removed the candy before she dug in.

We served lemonade to drink because its perfect for a sunny day

My sweet sister who helped me a ton!

A quick sister shot

Gracie and Mommy.  I have to speak about her outfit briefly.  When I was in Texas in September, I was on the lookout for the perfect birthday outfit (that's how long I had been planning things).  I found this adorable necklace, but never found the right outfit.  My awesome sister-in-law Jane, promised me that she would find something.  A month later, I received not one, but two different outfits that were perfect and so cute!  Jane did an amazing job.  I picked one outfit for the party and the other she will wear for her one year photo shoot.  The outfit was so darn cute on her!

Daddy and his girl

Gracie had been battling a very nasty cold around her party.  She had been to the doctor and given antibiotics a few days prior, but she was still a little under the weather.  That is why she has a red face.
