Graceyn's actual birthday is always at an awkward time for us. It usually falls during Spring Break when we are out of town. Like last year, we decided to have her party a few weeks early so we could celebrate before we went to Arizona. It worked out great and I am glad she got an official party.
We have decided to only do family parties until they start kindergarten. I like to keep it simple, yet special. I had a tough time coming up with a theme for her party. Ashlyn and Dawson both had a movie or television show they really liked at that age that we did for a theme. Gracie still shows zero interest in T.V. or movies and I can't say she has ever watched either. It finally occurred to me that the one thing she loves most is books. She is always looking at books and bringing me books to read to her. We read books every night together and she curls up in my lap and loves pointing out things I ask her to. I decided to use one of her favorite books, The Hungry Caterpillar. Such a great, classic book. Also, what better theme for a spring birthday than a caterpillar/butterfly?
To keep it simple, I really didn't put in a ton of time into her party. I spent so much time on her first birthday, that I wanted to keep this one a lot more simple. I found and made some really cute decorations that went perfectly with the theme. I found some great food ideas on Pinterest and the kids gobbled up the food. It was still a very special day for her.
It was a great party. Gracie loved her decorations and all the food. She was showered with love, yummy food, and lots of presents. It was truly a perfect second birthday party.

I love how her cake table turned out. The caterpillar balloon was my favorite. So simple, yet so cute. |

We had to have a butterfly in the corner |

After I swore no more homemade cakes, I found this caterpillar cupcake kit online and couldn't resist. I loved the way they turned out and they were so simple to make. The buttercream frosting recipe I used was so tasty. |

The book on the table actually belonged to my sister and my parents gave it to her when she was around Gracie's age. |

I had to use butterfly crackers. |
