Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday, we made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous this weekend.  We broke records with temperatures in the high 80s .  We got there first thing because we knew it would be busy with the great weather. We all just loves this pumpkin patch and we always have so much fun each year.  It really does feel like the perfect kick off to fall.
We started with the corn maze.  The kids always love it for about 30 minutes, then they get tired.  They always have a different game to play with clues to look for.  I don't think we have ever finished the game, but one year I am determined to!  After the maze, we spent the rest of our time participating in all the fun activities.  The kids had a great time picking pumpkins.  We had a great time just like in year's past.  The pumpkin patch is a drive, but always a wonderful time!

Ready for some pumpkin patch fun

Not sure why Gracie looks so sad in this picutre

We got the girls matching dresses to wear and they looked so cute!

All the kids.  It's impossible to get them all to look at the camera

We found a clue!

Joey always insists on this shot every year.  Gracie was finally old enough this year to get a good one.

She is such a strong girl!

Finally found the perfect one
Our fun didn't end after the pumpkin patch.  Ella and Jameson came over for a night full of fall fun.  We started by making some monsters out of paper plates.  The kids loved painting them.  After we made monsters, we made rice krispy monster treats.  The kids got to spread on melted chocolate and put candy eyes on them.  They were so much fun to make and the kids said very tasty!  We ended our perfect fall day, with a Halloween movie.  What a great day it was.

The finished monsters.  Please excuse most of the kids in their underwear.  They are such silly kids that love to run around in their underwear.

That's a pretty crazy monster

Chinook Cross Country

Ashlyn was supposed to have her second cross country meet two Fridays ago.  Due to weather, they cancelled it.  Ashlyn didn't have school on Thursday and Friday so they rescheduled the meet for Wednesday after school.  Ashlyn had practice that morning, but we took it really easy and mostly just walked.  Ashlyn had a really big field trip that day to the top of Pikes Peak and I didn't want her to be completely worn out for her meet after school.
Despite a long day at school, Ashlyn was ready to run after school.  The weather was so iffy that day.  It was raining in all the areas around her school, yet it never rained there.  You can see the ominous looking clouds in the background.  Her coach insisted that if it rained they would still race.  I was really praying they wouldn't have to run in the rain.
They lucked out and it did not rain.  When the gun went off, Ashlyn was near the front.  The course they ran this time was a longer one and Ashlyn was out of sight for almost the entire race.  We waited by the finish chute for our girl.  I was so excited to see her come near the finish line.  Only three girls were ahead of her.  A girl pulled in front of her at the last minute.  She gave it her all and pulled off 5th place for the girls.  She is now running in the 2nd/3rd grade race.  The competition is a pretty fierce.  There were a lot of kids at this race.  We were so proud of our girl!  She is having so much fun running and she is good at it.
We have practice two times a week and I go with Ashlyn and run with her.  We usually run at least 2 miles each practice.  Running is such a good sport for her to get into (not that I am biased or anything).  I know we will both miss our morning runs when cross country is over.  She has one last meet and I am excited to see how she does.

Science Fair

Weekends around here have just been so busy!  We certainly pack a ton of fun into two days.  We have been having so much fun.  Two weekends ago, we had a particularly busy weekend.  It started on Saturday morning when Ashlyn had a birthday party to go to.
After her party, we picked up the rest of the family and headed to a local dessert company that had a fall festival.  There were all sorts of yummy desserts to sample.  They had a face painter there that was amazing.  She was by far the best face painter I have ever seen.  She was quick too.  We got a Frozen face and a Spiderman.
After we stuffed ourselves with tasty treats, we were off to our next destination.  We went to a science day at UCCS which it was the college both Joey and I went to.  It was really neat to see the campus because I don't think I have been back since I graduated more than 10 years ago!  It has changed and grown immensely.  The science event was so cool.  We went on a whim to check it out and I am so glad we went.  Gracie slept most of the time in her stroller, but Ashlyn and Dawson had a blast.  Ashlyn loves science and she loved getting to try new things.  They made slime.  They played with Legos.  They also had really neat science demonstrations.  We went to one where a scientist filled balloons with different chemicals and lit them on fire.  The explosions were pretty neat.  We also went to a physics show that had all sorts of different science experiments and demonstrations.  It was a very fun activity.  We definitely to be going back next year.
After the science event, we grabbed a quick lunch and headed to Denver for a housewarming party of some friends of ours.  After some more fun, we headed back home.  We got home just in time for bed.  The next day, we were invited to one of Ashlyn's friends houses to watch football.  Their house is the ultimate kid house and the kids had a blast playing with lots of kids and new toys.  We ended the weekend with our usual family dinner.
What a weekend!  We had so much fun.
