Pinewood Derby 2018

Joey and Dawson have really enjoyed doing cub scouts together.  Joey is the leader of his den, and they have done some fun stuff this year.  One activity that was a big event was the pinewood derby.  I was completely new to this entire thing since I was never in Boy Scouts.  The boys are given wood that they make into cars and then race with one another. I am told that they have been doing this for years and years and it is a favorite of event of the scouts.  Dawson is a bit young to be whittling things out of wood, so Joey did most of the work on the car.  Dawson did know he wanted to go with a Mario theme of course.  Joey made the car and Dawson painted it.
On Saturday, the entire pack got together to race their cars.  They competed within their dens first, and the top two from each den went to the finals.  They do several heats to determine the fastest cars. Dawson was overjoyed when his car kept winning.  He managed to make it to the finals!  He got a special pin for his uniform for making it. As I have mentioned, Dawson is the least competitive kid I have ever met.  He was happy to make it to the finals, but he knew he wasn't going to make it farther than that and he was perfectly okay with that.  We came back later for the finals, and Mario, his car was not fast enough to compete with the older boys cars.  We all had a great time watching the cars race and the excitement of it all. I think they learned what to do better for next year.  I'm sure it will turn out just as neat.

Easter

Easter was a great one this year.  The kids laid out their baskets the night before on the kitchen table for the Easter bunny to fill.  They all awoke very early to find that he had left them quite a bounty of goodies.  He even left Emmy a basket full of stuff.

Checking out their baskets

After the kids looked at all of their new stuff, it was time to start the hunt.  The Easter Bunny leaves a lot of eggs at our house and he always leaves them throughout the house.  It takes the kids quite a while to find all those eggs.

All that Easter action wore a little girl out!

We hosted everyone at our house for Easter dinner.  It worked out well this year because my mom, grandma, sister, and myself all split up the food and no one was stuck making it all.  It was the least amount I have had to cook for a holiday in a very long time!  The food was delicious.
