***I wrote this earlier this week, and I forgot to post it.
We had a lot of exciting things happen this week. I will start with the most exciting, and that is that Ashlyn has her first loose tooth!!! I could not believe that she already has a one. The other night at dinner she was complaining of a tooth bothering her, Joey felt around and sure enough it was loose. She is very excited at the prospect of the tooth fairy coming to visit. She is struggling a bit with certain foods and not being able to chew on that side, but she is managing. The tooth is definitely getting looser and I think it will be coming out any time now. It is so exciting to see kids grow up, but it is still so hard at the same time. I can't believe she is already old enough for a loose tooth!
I took Dawson to see an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor this week. At his speech evaluation, they recommended that he go and see one. They began the appointment with a hearing test. The doctor came in and examined Dawson. He looked in his ears and immediately said that he saw a great deal of fluid. His hearing test also indicated that he had mild hearing loss. The doctor said because of these things, and his frequent ear infections, that we should have tubes placed in his ears. We scheduled his procedure for the last part of May. The doctor said it is very quick and most kids are back to their normal selves within a few hours. I am looking forward to it because I really think it is going to help him a lot. I am just praying for a very easy and painless recovery for our little guy.
When I picked him up at daycare on Friday, his teacher was telling me how impressed she is by how smart he is. She tested him on his letters and she said he can identify 24 letters. She told me that he knows more than some of the 3 1/2 year olds that he goes to school with. I am so proud of him! He amazes us every day with what he knows.
I had a race this last weekend. It is the second race that is part of the big series that I did last year. This race is held in the Garden of the Gods . It has some killer hills. The main hill is about 1/2 a mile long and it is steep! Katy and I have been going on Saturdays to Garden of the Gods and running this hill several times to prep for the race. So I went into it feeling pretty confident. The weather was beautiful and it was a great day for a race. As much as I hate all of the hills, it is such a scenic course. I ran a pretty strong race and ended up taking 5th overall for the females, and first in my age group. My sister has been training with me and I am so proud of how far she has come! She took off running her entire pregnancy and you would never guess by how fast she has gotten. She took 9th overall for females and third in our age group. My brother also ran it, and did excellent too. It was a great race day for all of us. I have a lot of races coming up this summer. I can't wait. My next race will be the Bolder Boulder. It is such a fun race and definitely one of my favorites! Pretty much every weekend this summer will be spent at the cabin or at a race. I can not wait!
We are finally getting settled into our house. We have everything unpacked and it is feeling like home now. When we bought this house it was the most hideous color combination I have ever seen. The base was a shade of peachy orange and the trim was this horrible shade of green. In fact I almost didn't want to buy this house because it was so horrible. We decided to get it painted immediately. The painters finished up this week and what a difference it makes! It looks immensely better. All of our neighbors have even been complimenting it and telling us how great it looks. The old color was really that bad. We are looking forward to other small projects we plan on doing and getting our yard established. We are planning on planting a lot of vegetables this summer. I am looking forward to watching them grow with the kids.
I only have two more weeks of school before break . As usual, I am sure we will have a jam packed summer full of lots of fun and adventure.
