Last weekend, the kids had their second race of the season at another elementary school. The kids' school gets out fairly late and we had exactly half an hour from when the bell rang and the race started. Parking was scarce, and we had to park pretty far away. Dawson barely got there in time for his race. Ella, was not as lucky and missed her race.
Dawson is definitely still getting the hang of running and races. Also, he is no way competitive, so he is just out there having fun. He had a great race and said he had a lot of fun!
Ashlyn's race had a lot of kids in it. We had talked earlier about running her own race and giving it her best. I was so nervous at the finish line, but I could not have been prouder to see her come in 3rd place out of the girls. Ashlyn really has some running talent, and I hope she sticks with it over the years. She has a lot of drive and competitiveness which could take her far. It was a good race for her. I am really going to try to get her out running with me as much as I can. Next year, she will be in the oldest race group and their races are significantly longer.
We only have one more week of practice, then their final race will be next weekend. I am glad it ends just before the weather cools down, because 7:45 a.m. practices would be brutal in the cold!
